What is Caladryl?

It is a topical lotion that soothes skin irritation and allergy. Its application has a cooling effect that eases the itching and burning sensation.

What is Caladryl used for?

It protects the skin against rashes, prickly heat, sun burns and insect bites.

Can Caladryl treat bacterial, fungal or viral infections?

No, it does not treat any infection. Caladryl is a topical lotion that shields the affected area of the skin to help avoid an infection and accelerate healing.

How does Caladryl work?

Caladryl uses the following mechanism to treat skin irritation:
Step 1: It controls sweat thereby preventing the accumulation of moisture and formation of pus.
Step 2: It helps reduce redness, swelling and stops germs from breeding in the affected area.
Step 3: A physical barrier is formed over the affected area to protect it against irritants and allergens. This accelerates the healing process.

What makes Caladryl unique?

Caladryl contains Diphenhydramine and Calamine.

Diphenhydramine is a topical medication that eases redness, swelling and itch in the affected area.

Calamine checks the formation of pus or accumulation of fluid. It shields the skin to prevent further damage and speeds up healing.

Is Caladryl safe for children?

Yes, Caladryl is very safe, and can be used on infants and kids. Pediatricians especially recommend Caladryl for skin irritation and allergies in children.

How long can Caladryl be used?

Caladryl should be applied 3-4 times a day. Though Caladryl is very safe and can be used for extended periods of time, we recommend continued usage fotr 2 weeks at a time.

What are the precautions that need to be taken when using Caladryl?

Take the following precautions when using Caladryl:

  • Do not rub or massage Caladryl into the affected area.
  • Do not apply Caladryl on an open wound.
  • Store Caladryl in a cool and dry place.

NOTE: Caladryl should not be applied on an open wound.

How is Caladryl different from Lacto Calamine?

Caladryl and Lacto Calamine differ in the following aspects:

  • Caladryl is a drug while Lacto Calamine is a cosmetic.
  • Caladryl must be used 3-4 times a day, for upto 2 weeks, on the affected area. Lacto Calamine is a daily skin nourishing lotion.
  • Caladryl contains Diphenhydramine, a drug that helps reduce redness and swelling of the affected area. Lacto Calamine does not exhibit any such property.
  • Caladryl contains Calamine that helps accelerate healing. Lacto Calamine does not contain this ingredient.

What is the shelf life of Caladryl?

Caladryl has a shelf life of 3 years.
